City approves JEO contract for hydrant field tests as step toward full water-system study

The Seward City Council approved a short-form agreement with JEO Consulting Group to carry out field data collection for the city water system. Mike explained the short-term contract will fund 25–50 hydrant flow and pressure tests that will be used to calibrate a GIS-based hydraulic model ahead of a more extensive water-system study.
"We only have a few days left that are warm enough, to do the hydrant tests," Mike said when describing the schedule pressure to complete fieldwork before winter. The city expects the full study to take 4–6 months and cost in excess of $200,000; this contract covers immediate field costs not to exceed $26,500 on a time-and-materials basis.
Councilors approved the short-form agreement unanimously. Staff said additional agreements for the full study will come back to council after scoping and budgeting are finalized.
