South Fayette presents Syntegix safety system, highlights county 9-1-1 integration

Dr. Kevin Maurer described a yearlong rollout of the Syntegix school-safety platform and told the board the district is the first in Allegheny County to integrate the system with county 9-1-1. He said exterior networking gateways and interior locating beacons were installed across district buildings and staff laptops and classroom displays were linked to allow an automated display takeover in an emergency.
The presentation outlined several operational features: a new visitor-management system that shows live visitor locations inside buildings; asset tagging of AEDs, epinephrine auto-injectors and fire extinguishers on a digital map for first responders; and crisis-alert badges that send location-specific alerts. "This is the most comprehensive school safety platform we have used to date," Dr. Kevin Maurer said, adding that every staff member has been trained on the system.
Maurer said the district ran ALICE drills in October that allowed staff to practice screen takeovers and beacon alerts, and he cited two early operational uses: Syntegix badges helped staff respond to a choking incident in a cafeteria and to a fainting episode in a library. He also noted Syntegix provides a vendor point person for ongoing support and that the district has a five-year agreement for the service.
On monitoring and day-to-day management, the presenter said the school police officer will oversee how the system operates while building-level "badge managers" (administrative assistants trained during site-responder training) will monitor badge health, replace batteries as needed and manage transfers for incoming or departing staff. "We are the first school district in Allegheny County to integrate the system with Allegheny County 9-1-1," the presenter said, noting the integration required training for more than 300 9-1-1 agents.
The presentation closed with acknowledgments to technology and maintenance staff for asset tagging and onboarding; the board did not take action on the presentation itself but acknowledged the update. The district said Syntegix vendor support remains available to the district under the current agreement.
