Parks and recreation staff presented a proposed Community Expo designed to tie into the city’s strategic action plan and strengthen connections between residents and municipal programs.
Brianna Williams (assistant director of parks and recreation) said the expo concept grew from stakeholder feedback that residents wanted stronger connections to city services and programs. The proposed event would feature workshops, awards, meet‑and‑greets and session‑level surveys to measure outcomes, with the first target year for a large‑scale event set for 2027. "This event is where our residents, our local organizations, and our community departments will connect, celebrate, and discover all the ways we are building a stronger community," Williams said.
Staff recommended keeping the first year open to gauge community interest while developing annual target themes (for example, public safety or business development). Councilmembers offered enthusiastic support, asked staff to identify partners and sponsors, and volunteered councillor advocacy and outreach assistance. Staff said next steps include refining the plan based on feedback, identifying stakeholders and partners and developing a timeline for implementation.
