Brockton City Council appoints four firefighters, approves Council on Aging bylaws and committee appointment

At its Sept. 22 meeting, the Brockton City Council confirmed four Brockton residents as firefighters, approved amended bylaws for the Council on Aging and appointed Docerella Green to the Beautification Committee.
President Thompson opened the Brockton City Council meeting on Sept. 22, 2025, and the council voted to appoint four candidates to the Brockton Fire Department. The clerk read the names Nelson d Andrade, Giovanni v Duarte, Austin j Ferreira and Edgar Kelly, and the council granted the appointments after Chief Nardelli described the candidates as veterans and vetted residents who will begin after providing notice.
The council later considered a petition from the Council on Aging board seeking approval of amended bylaws. Eunice Fitzgerald, invited to the microphone, described the bylaws as part of a rebrand and an updated mission statement; the council approved the bylaws by roll call (10–0) and placed the petition on file.
Separately, the clerk read Item 3 appointing Docerella Green of Brockton to the Brockton Beautification Committee for a one-year term ending September 2026; that appointment was recorded and referred as indicated on the agenda.
A motion for reconsideration of the firefighter appointments, brought by Councilor Lally and seconded, failed on a subsequent vote. The meeting recessed briefly for photos of the new appointees before returning to the record.
