CHSD 94 recognizes students and staff; student rep describes new procedure for all-gender bathroom access

During the opening reports the board recognized Valeria Bienas as October Student of the Month and honored educators Christina Sladek and Emily Renteria along with staff member Claudia Castellanos for their contributions to West Chicago Community High School. Teachers and division heads offered praise and students provided brief remarks about the honorees’ classroom leadership and support.
Student Board Representative (speaking during the student report) described the annual Turkey Drive fundraiser and said the student council is switching fundraising recipients this year. The representative also reported a new policy change affecting all-gender restrooms: "Under a new policy, students are now required to request access to the all gender bathrooms from security guards," the representative said, adding that "students are noticeably adjusting to this new policy, and some have shared their discomfort with it," while most students appreciated receiving explanations and advance notice and said staff are willing to address concerns.
The meeting record shows the board acknowledged the student report and moved on to other agenda items. The superintendent and principal reports earlier in the meeting noted student achievements in music and athletics and previewed a December data presentation tied to the district strategic plan.
The student report indicates the policy change is already in effect and that school staff are monitoring student response; no formal board action on the bathroom procedure was recorded in the meeting minutes.
