Port Orange parks and recreation previews holiday events and bond‑funded park projects

Parks & Recreation Director Susan Vowell presented the department’s seasonal programming and progress on bond projects at the Port Orange City Council meeting on Nov. 18.
Vowell described holiday events beginning late November and running through December, including senior caroling and crafts (adult activity center), the city’s Christmas in the Park tree lighting on Dec. 6, a holiday house‑decorating contest, the annual holiday parade, and a calendar of family events and youth sports leagues. She noted registration pressures on popular programs: youth flag football registration is full with 43 on the waiting list and some adult leagues also are at capacity.
On capital projects, Vowell said Willow Run Park is in final design and will include a new playground, lighted basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, and a bicycle skills playground; both Willow Run and City Center sports complex expansion are expected to go to bid in February. Croisi Park renovations (field drainage, irrigation, sod and fencing) are on the Dec. 9 agenda for approval to proceed with design and are expected to start in early 2026 with completion estimated mid‑year. Causeway Park south boat ramp and parking improvements will begin Jan. 5 with partial ramp closures during construction.
Vowell asked residents to check the Recreation Department website and social media for updates; staff will post maps of participating homes for the house‑decorating contest and a QR code for project updates.
