The El Segundo Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved the consent agenda and accepted several donations, then approved multiple facility-related change orders during its November meeting.
The board voted to approve the consent agenda (items 3A–N) and later accepted gifts presented under Board Policy 3290, including PTA and community donations earmarked for Richmond Street School, El Segundo Middle School and other sites. Clerk Wheaton read the donations and the board approved acceptance without opposition.
Board members then considered a series of deductive change orders and design-fee adjustments for projects including the Eagles Nest Arena, district office modernization, cafeteria window work and the North Gym window project. Dr. Linz told the board several items were deductive adjustments while some projects were delayed awaiting state modernization funding. Board members thanked facility staff and advisory committee volunteers for detailed review and voted to approve the presented items, each passing unanimously.
Why it matters: The actions clear design and contracting steps for district facilities projects and move donated funds into schools’ accounts. Several approvals were framed as deductions to design fees tied to scheduling and funding timing rather than added scope or new budget allocations.
Votes at a glance: - Consent agenda (3A–N): motion to approve; outcome: passed, 5–0 (student preferential vote recorded). - Acceptance of gifts (Item 4A): motion to accept donations presented under Board Policy 3290; outcome: passed, 5–0. Donors listed included Richmond Street School PTA and JW Photography; amounts and designated uses were read into the record. - PBK design fee and deductive change orders (Items 4B–4G): multiple motions to approve deductive design-fee adjustments and change orders for Eagles Nest Arena, district office modernization, cafeteria window project and North Gym window project; outcomes: each passed, 5–0.
The board will install a plaque in the El Segundo High School band room to recognize a $185,000 gift from the estate of Loretta Fry, also acknowledged during the meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
