Lake County Council approves multiple transfers, ordinances and grant applications

At its Nov. 1 meeting the Lake County Council approved a package of budget transfers, ordinance readings and grant applications affecting multiple departments, including the surveyor’s perpetuation fund, juvenile court salary lines, sheriff training funds and several health-department grant applications.
Actions the council carried included approval of: transfers in the surveyor’s perpetuation fund to cover equipment repair and professional services and authorization to submit a SEED grant application to the Indiana Office of Technology for address-point and centerline cleanup; revised federal- and general-fund line items for criminal and probation officers with noted salary adjustments; multiple county-general transfers for juvenile and other departments; and an ordinance establishing pay increases and a new position in the juvenile probation department (Dept. 40-06). The council also approved a request for appropriation for the sheriff’s firearm training fund ($7,000) and transfers for jail overtime, inmate clothing and holiday pay.
The Health Department received approvals to apply for several grants, including an Indiana Department of Health Water Safety and Drowning Prevention grant and an autism elopement kits grant, and the council approved routing and appropriations tied to opioid-settlement youth empowerment programming from the county’s opioid settlement fund.
Most items passed following motion, second and roll call votes. Where roll calls were recorded the clerk reported a six-member majority with one absence on several items; individual votes were recorded as roll-call tallies rather than attributed to named councilors in the motion record.
What’s next: departments will implement authorized transfers and submit approved grant applications; several items require routine follow-up reporting to the council.
