Recreation Authority reports 289 runners at Big Bird Run, park behind rec center nearing completion

Frederick said last Sunday's Big Bird Run drew 289 runners despite poor weather and that the Authority raffled roughly two dozen turkeys. She highlighted upcoming events: a puzzle tournament on Saturday, Nov. 22 (teams up to four, ages 16 and older, limited spots) and the annual VIP family dance on Friday, Dec. 5. Frederick said winter basketball, volleyball and cheerleading registration opens Dec. 1, with a $15 early‑registration discount if paid by Nov. 30.
On capital work, Frederick said a planned park development behind the Recreation Authority Center has expanded playgrounds, installed new surfacing, added a large walking path, a pavilion and four pickleball courts. She said the project is projected to be finished by the end of the year with a planned ribbon cutting in spring.
Council thanked Frederick and several residents praised the Rec Authority staff.
