Park Norwalk staff reported substantive progress on two major garage projects. Brian said concrete structural repairs at the Haviland parking deck are about 90% complete, with remaining punch‑list work and one light fixture pending; full waterproofing of driving surfaces and the top deck is scheduled for the spring of 2026 when warmer temperatures allow.
At Yankee Doodle Garage, staff reported River Street and Burnell Boulevard facades are power washed, prepped, primed and fully painted. Brian said the contractor will push to complete the west side before winter if weather permits and will remobilize in spring to finish remaining sections and stairwells. Commissioners and other attendees praised the visual transformation and suggested complementary improvements such as interior power washing, stair‑tower accents, flag or clock features and upgraded lighting to maximize the project's public impact.
Staff also described small site improvements: two bike racks were recently installed at Haviland and a solar‑powered wayfinding sign is under consideration for the gateway with simple messages ("Public parking," hours, rates) and payment provider logos (FlowBird, ParkMobile). The authority noted it intends to minimize future full garage closures and will coordinate phasing with contractors to reduce parking impacts.
Next steps: staff will complete remaining punch‑list items at Haviland, install the pending light fixture, finalize signage details and return with a schedule for the spring waterproofing and any remaining facade work at Yankee Doodle.
