Fit City Center readies soft opening; city unveils Fit 60 Plus pass for seniors

City staff provided a progress update on the Fit City Center and the transition of senior services. Nick Porter and senior-program lead Erica described membership logistics (2,613 memberships recorded at time of the report), soft openings for current members beginning Dec. 8 and full membership access Dec. 15. The center has obtained health department permits for indoor pools and is conducting lifeguard training and staff onboarding.
Staff said they will rename the senior membership to the “Fit 60 Plus Pass” to reduce confusion between legacy senior-center memberships and the new Fit City membership. The Fit 60 Plus Pass will cost $35 annually (continuation of the previous senior membership offering) and include social and programmatic services such as line dancing, excursions, tax-help sessions, monthly haircuts and a new "Ask the Experts" series on Medicare and end-of-life planning.
Council members asked about insurance-based memberships (SilverSneakers/Renew Active) and staff said many seniors already have coverage that will help offset membership costs. Senior tours, special accessibility tours and a farewell event for the old facility will occur Dec. 1; full programming will be staged over the grand opening week.
Next steps: Staff will continue public tours, finalize membership card distribution and monitor membership growth; they projected about 350 Fit 60 Plus pass holders by year’s end if current trends continue.
