South Lake Mosquito Abatement District consolidated into North Shore; Riverwoods officials praise outcome

Mayor Ford told trustees the South Lake Mosquito Abatement District voted to dissolve and the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District voted to accept and annex South Lake effective Nov. 17. According to Mayor Ford, the consolidation transfers all assets and liabilities to North Shore and keeps the Clark contract in place; Clark will assist in training North Shore staff and the districts will collaborate on mapping water-accumulation areas.
Mayor Ford and trustees said financial expectations include a likely reduction in the line item on residents’ tax bills next year, and that North Shore now has authority to fund tick-control research under a recent change in state law. Trustees thanked local residents and officials who worked on the consolidation and said the North Shore executive director will be invited to make a presentation to the board early next year.
