Wappingers spotlights student musicians and theater in superintendent arts presentation

President Johnson opened the Nov. 17 meeting by introducing a superintendent spotlight on the district's fine and performing arts programs, and Bonnie King, the district’s director of exceptional fine and performing arts, told the board and audience she was “very excited to introduce the students that we have here tonight.”
King highlighted students selected for NYSSMA area all‑state (Zone 10), noting that the area event will be hosted in Arlington on Nov. 22. She named students chosen for concert band, mixed choir, orchestra and other ensembles and said a smaller number who achieved top state scores were selected for conference all‑state in Rochester in December. "We're very fortunate here at Wappingers to continuously be recognized for the support that we give to music and the fine and performing arts," King said.
Students from Royce Ketchum and John Jay performed short excerpts for the board, including a Mask and Mime piece and a selection from Merrily We Roll Along. Several students introduced themselves by name and grade before performing. Board members and district staff thanked the students and their advisers after the presentation; President Johnson and others emphasized the district's sustained investment in arts programming.
The spotlight also called attention to advisers and volunteers. King specifically acknowledged directors and teachers who prepare students for adjudication and performance, and the board noted that concert schedules and winter program rotations will continue through December across district schools. The presentation concluded with the board thanking students and staff for their time and talent.
