"These are all ones we've seen before. They've been updated to meet current legislation changes," Speaker 1 said when introducing the policy.
Committee members also reviewed parallel revisions in personnel and student series policies (including 4116.1, 4118.1 and 5020.1) that revert references to the 2020 Title IX regulations after a federal district-court ruling and adjust definitions and procedures accordingly. Speaker 1 described specific regulatory adjustments in 4116.1, including the district's option to use third-party investigators in some cases and changes to how certain sexual-offense terms are defined to align with criminal-statute language.
"There's not a lot of changes, and it's very small, minimal," Speaker 1 said of several of the nondiscrimination updates; Speaker 2 agreed that waiving a second reading was reasonable for those items. The committee recommended forwarding these nondiscrimination policies to the full board and recommended waiving the second reading where the committee judged the changes to be minor and procedural.
Next steps: the committee will forward the listed nondiscrimination policies to the full Madison School District board for consideration, along with the committee's recommendation to waive the second reading for the specified items.
