Federal Way staff presented a first reading Nov. 18 on an ordinance to grant Fat Beam LLC a nonexclusive 10‑year franchise to place fiber‑optic cable and related equipment in city right‑of‑way.
Leonard Spadoni, senior engineering plans reviewer in Public Works, said Fat Beam has paid a $5,000 administrative deposit and that the proposed franchise would align with other utility franchises the city has granted. Council voted to forward the ordinance to the Dec. 2 meeting for second reading and potential enactment.
No public comment on the item was recorded at this meeting. Staff will return with the ordinance for a second reading and adoption vote at the Dec. 2 council meeting.
