Morton increases ambulance fees, authorizes intergovernmental repair agreement

The Village of Morton board on Nov. 3 approved changes to ambulance transport rates and adopted an intergovernmental agreement to expand fire-apparatus repair options.
Director of Fire and Emergency Services presented Ordinance 26-14, saying the village had not revisited ambulance transport fees since 2011 and proposing increases across categories: basic life support (BLS) transport from $600 to $900; advanced life support (ALS) from $700 to $1,000; ALS‑2 from $800 to $1,100; treat-only (no transport) from $200 to $500; ALS intercept from $250 to $750; and a new out-of-community mutual-aid transport fee of $1,350. The director also proposed raising the mileage rate from $10 to $18.
“After a lot of consideration and research, we decided to raise our transport fees,” the director said, and invited trustees to ask questions. The board discussed the first-rate revision since 2011 and then approved the ordinance by roll-call vote.
The board also approved Resolution 25-26, authorizing an intergovernmental agreement to allow the village’s fire department to send out-of-service apparatus to neighboring municipal mechanics or manufacturer service centers when repairs cannot be completed locally. The resolution is intended to shorten downtime for emergency vehicles and provide additional, quicker repair channels.
Both measures were moved and seconded and passed on recorded roll-call votes. The meeting record does not show specific projected revenue from the ambulance increases or a phased implementation schedule; the director said he would answer follow-up questions as needed.
