A Tuscaloosa City committee approved a new field-services-manager classification for the IT department and two construction-superintendent classifications for the public-works streets and drainage division.
Speaker 4 presented the IT proposal, saying the change does not add a new full-time equivalent position and will be funded within IT’s existing budget by reclassifying an existing role. The presenter said the city took over management of the fiber-optic network three years ago and that the current supervisor role has grown to include responsibility for security cameras, access control and networked equipment.
Councilors asked whether pay classification would change and how many employees would be affected; Speaker 4 said the reclassification affects one person and that the manager classification differs from the current supervisor pay grade.
Speaker 8 presented the public-works request for two construction superintendent positions for fiscal year 2026 to provide mid-level management, work prioritization, quality control and safety compliance. Staff said the positions are created by eliminating certain vacant operational positions (including a supervisor classification and several concrete finisher roles) so the proposal would not increase the department’s overall salary budget.
Motions to approve both personnel items were made and passed by voice vote; the transcript records movers and seconders but does not include a roll-call tally.
