Carol Stream swears in lateral-transfer officer Robert J. Shockerbauer

The Village Board held a swearing-in for Robert J. Shockerbauer, a lateral hire from Winfield with more than two years of patrol experience; the mayor administered the oath and the officer will enter the department's field training program.
Robert J. Shockerbauer took the oath of office at the Nov. 17 Village Board meeting and was formally welcomed to the Carol Stream Police Department.
A police department representative introduced Shockerbauer as a lateral transfer with "over 2 years of prior law enforcement experience as a patrol officer with the Winfield Police Department," and said his "familiarity with DuPage County procedures and his experience handling a broad range of calls will ease his transition." The representative also invited family members to present Shockerbauer with his badge.
Mayor Savarino administered the oath. In the ceremony the mayor led the oath, which included, "I, Robert J. Shockerbauer, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States of America," language repeated by the new officer as part of the formal swearing-in.
Because Shockerbauer is already Illinois-certified, the department said he will enter its field training program and train alongside field training officers to learn local policies, tactics and departmental expectations.
The board and staff welcomed Shockerbauer and several trustees offered personal congratulations during their reports.
