During his inaugural remarks, Mayor Mark Bogan introduced two civic initiatives focused on hunger relief and business engagement. He described The Bread Promise, a campaign and website (thebreadpromise.com) intended to let individuals donate $5 to deliver a loaf of bread to homeless shelters and food pantries; Bogan said 100% of donations would first go to a local nonprofit partner (the Broward Partnership for the Homeless) and then to the bakery with no administrative fees taken.
Bogan said he would personally fund 100 loaves a month (about $500 monthly) and that the bakery committed to match that donation, increasing distribution to approximately 200 loaves monthly under his pledge. He described the plan as a small, practical step to help feed residents in need rather than a comprehensive solution to food insecurity.
Separately, Bogan said he plans to convene a Broward Business Council made up of local business leaders and organizations — he named Tim Petrillo, Bob Swindell and Dan Lindblade and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber as initial participants — to provide quarterly input to the commission on how to support new and existing businesses.
Both initiatives were presented as early priorities; the mayor said more announcements will follow at future meetings.
