Lapeer Commission postpones administrative items, approves $685,506.28 in bills and other routine business

The Lapeer City Commission voted on Nov. 17 to postpone action on administrative items listed under sections G, H and J until the commission’s next regular meeting on Dec. 1, 2025. Commissioner Melissa Petrie moved the postponement and Commissioner Glisman provided support; the motion carried by roll call with recorded yes votes from Commissioners Glisman, Lenny McCarthy and Petrie and no votes from Commissioners Atwood and Brady.
During debate preceding the vote, members discussed whether the mayor/chair could make or propose such a motion under local custom and Robert’s Rules of Order. City legal counsel and other commissioners cited custom and the option to suspend the rules; the commission then proceeded to a formal motion and vote rather than relying on chair-only action.
Following the postponement vote the commission approved the agenda as amended and later approved the minutes of the prior meeting after a brief procedural exchange. Commissioner Lenny McCarthy stated he would abstain from the minutes vote because he was not present at the meeting being approved; the abstention was recorded and the minutes carried by roll call.
The commission approved the consent agenda (one item) and accepted the bill listing for 11/17/2025 in the amount of $685,506.28 after a motion by Commissioner Glisman and a roll-call vote in favor.
In public comment, Lapeer County Commissioner Bridal Hagedorn congratulated the incoming mayor and commissioner and notified the commission about three county agenda items: a county grant covering 50% of new bulletproof/stab-proof vests for the sheriff’s department, a DNR grant for Pollyann Trail maintenance, and a $67,522 mental health court grant. Commissioners also used closing comments to note a donation of 10 lilac plants from Norbert O'Dani of O'Dani Nursery to the city's lilac project, and provided an update on historic courthouse renovation work that remains to be completed.
The commission adjourned after closing remarks.
