Jeremy Hain took the oath of office and was sworn in as mayor of Lapeer before the commission on Nov. 17. The oath was administered by the Hon. Dennis J. McCarthy, who led Hain through the pledge to support the U.S. and Michigan constitutions and to "faithfully perform the duties of the office of mayor." Hain repeated the oath and concluded, "so help me God."
Lenny McCarthy was sworn in following Hain. Dennis J. McCarthy administered the oath to McCarthy, who affirmed he would "faithfully perform the duties of the office of city commissioner" for the City of Lapeer and the state of Michigan.
In other organizational business, nominations opened for mayor pro tem. Commissioner Glisman nominated Commissioner Melissa Petrie; Commissioner Brady nominated Commissioner Atwood. The clerk conducted roll-call votes for each nominee and the commission selected Commissioner Melissa Petrie as mayor pro tem. The commission then proceeded with the regular agenda.
The swearing-in and internal leadership votes mark the start of the commission's new term and establish the body’s leadership for handling upcoming agenda items and committee work.
