Hodges highlighted several major projects in the CRTPA area: a multi‑lane reconstruction of State Road 263 (Capitol Circle) including a new multiuse path and bridge replacement with a construction letting scheduled (total investment presented as over $156 million), resurfacing projects on Interstate 10 and other state roads, multiple bridge rehabilitation projects, Safe Routes to School sidewalks at Springwood and Hawks Rise elementary schools, Sun Trail shared‑use path designs east of Tallahassee, and rest‑area truck parking additions on I‑10 in several counties.
Staff also described recent TIP amendments and corrections, including an ITS cabinet upgrade project (project number correction) and FDOT‑funded lighting and rail‑crossing safety work near Blountstown Highway and Midway; the board approved the TIP amendments in a roll‑call vote after staff presentation.
FDOT noted some easing in material costs (lower asphalt and air costs) but flagged ongoing workforce and wage pressures that can affect delivery timelines. District staff introduced Tim Smith as the new District Secretary and outlined how the five‑year work program is used to implement near-term projects, while the long‑range plan prepares projects for later funding opportunities.
The board discussed geographic representation for outlying counties (Jefferson, Gadsden, Gaston) and asked staff to reach out about vacant seats and ways to improve participation, including virtual options or rotating meeting locations. The board also confirmed several administrative actions including consent agenda approvals and the nomination by unanimous consent of Commissioner Nick Maddox as chair and Commissioner Goldwire as vice chair.
FDOT and CRTPA staff said final work‑program documents and interactive project maps will be available on the agency website for review.
