Board honors five students for community-minded service

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District recognized five students at its regular board meeting for exemplary community-oriented behavior as part of the Cardinal's Journey awards.
Superintendent Dana Minogue introduced the recipients and described the student-led organization Middleton Meals Matter, led by co-presidents Rohan Dileep and Beatrice Norman, which conducts food drives, advocacy and chapters in other schools. "These are students who go above and beyond to strengthen our community and lift up others," Minogue said when presenting the awards.
Griffin Schumacher was honored for raising nearly $10,000 for the River Alliance of Wisconsin and for combining environmental advocacy with his passion for paddling. Viola Ennis was recognized for a persuasive elementary-school essay that led to the Ennis Family Garden Coop and partnerships with local greenhouses. Martel Stamps, nominated by library media specialist Amanda Strachmeier and an encore teaching team, was cited for involving others in problem solving and creating a welcoming classroom environment.
Board members and staff presented medals and plaques and invited families to take photos; the honorees’ pictures will be displayed in a district hallway mural.
No formal board action was required to present the awards.
