The Harrison County Board of Education deferred action on a resolution to become a participant in the State of West Virginia 457 deferred retirement plan, voting to table the matter until its next meeting in December.
Patrick, identified during the meeting as director of West Virginia Retirement Plus, described the 457 option and said the program now manages roughly $453 million in assets and serves more than 20,000 participants. Board members raised questions about how employee enrollment would be handled, whether local providers would be affected, and the timeline for an implementation effective date of Jan. 1, 2026.
Several trustees said they needed more time to study the plan and hear more stakeholder input. One trustee asked for a study period because the board had only the single presentation and wanted additional detail before voting. The board agreed to table the resolution and asked staff to place the item on the Dec. 2 agenda for further consideration.
No formal adoption occurred at the November meeting; tabling preserves the option to adopt at the next meeting after further review and staff follow-up.
