ROE inspection: most schools cleared; a few outbuildings and the high school had fixable violations

District operations staff summarized results of the annual regional office of education (ROE) health and life-safety inspection at the Nov. 17 Board of Education meeting.
Staff said this year—s inspection covered every school building and included additional district structures (Valentine Warehouse, annex, ESC and operations service center) and outbuildings such as sheds and stadium structures. Several schools had no violations, including Indian Hill Elementary, Village Elementary, John T. McGee and Round Lake Middle School. The district reported a net decline in violations from 16 to 15 since 2021 and credited pre-inspection walk-throughs and building-level engagement for the improvement.
Noted violations included missing outlet safety plugs in some kindergarten-through-second-grade classrooms at early-childhood sites (items the district ordered to replace), clearance and evacuation-map items at the transition center (three-foot clearance in front of an electrical panel, missing evacuation map), and a number of storage/extension-cord/clearance issues at the high school. Operations staff said many deficiencies were corrected on the spot or already addressed and that the district will file required correction timelines within 10 days of the field-notice report.
Staff also described two inspection "wins": an ROE architect agreed that one previously noted door-swing correction at Round Lake Middle School would create a larger violation and removed it from the list, and storage under a sprinkled stairwell was accepted as suitable. The administration emphasized continued pre-inspection preparation with principals, custodial staff and central operations.
Next steps District staff will submit required correction timelines to the ROE within 10 days and continue follow-up with building leadership. The board asked to keep the inspection record and corrective actions on future finance/operations agendas.
