Repower Wiscasset urges Lincoln County to consider geothermal and turbine manufacturing plan

Peter Arnold, speaking for Repower Wiscasset during public comment, asked Lincoln County commissioners to put a 28-page proposal from Peregrine Turbine Technologies on their radar.
Arnold said Peregrine’s founder, identified in the presentation as "David," has developed what Arnold characterized as a better turbine, operates manufacturing at the local airport and maintains a headquarters near Birch Point. The proposal Arnold described would establish a center for geothermal development and engineering near Birch Point and pursue electricity generation on town land once used by the Maine Yankee facility. "David's developed a better turbine," Arnold said, adding he hoped the county would ask, "How can we help?"
Arnold said the state legislature recently passed a bill to study deep geothermal and hydropower and argued the approach could help close a state energy shortfall he summarized as "50% down now for 2030," and he said offshore wind efforts had been scaled back. He offered to provide electronic copies of the proposal and told commissioners he had a printed copy available.
Commissioners thanked Arnold and agreed staff would circulate an electronic copy of the proposal for review. No county endorsement or action on the proposal was taken at the meeting; the item appeared as public comment and will require follow-up if the commission chooses to pursue it further.
