On Nov. 20 the Historic Resources Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for exterior siding and some window work at 1530 Bridal Road, contingent on staff review of final siding reveal and window/trim details.
Staff recommended replacement siding that more closely match the historic narrow reveal (targeting a 3–4 inch exposure), and suggested either wood or smooth cementitious siding with matching trim details. The applicant, Henry Harned, said material sourcing and supply quantity were practical constraints; staff noted James Hardie and other cementitious products offer reveals in the 4–5 inch range. Commissioners directed the applicant to provide millwork dimensions for head, jamb and sill trims and the final window product for staff approval so the work would match existing historic proportions.
A motion to approve COA 25012130 (1530 Bridal Road) passed with the stipulation that staff confirm the selected siding product provides an acceptable reveal and that the two replacement windows and all trim details match existing dimensions or be approved administratively by staff. The commission also asked that box gutters and color choices be documented and submitted to staff for administrative approval where appropriate.
The commission’s approval allows the applicant to proceed, subject to those conditions and administrative sign-off.
