The Campton Hills Village Board opened a public hearing on an annexation petition for two adjacent parcels on Brown Road (5N428 and 5N476) and heard a staff overview before adjourning the hearing for lack of public comment.
Village staff said the two parcels total about 9 acres (roughly 4.5 acres each) and that the owner is seeking to build an accessory structure (described as a pole barn) that, because of site grading and topography, would have to be located in what would become a front yard. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approving a variance contingent on formal annexation into the village. Staff told the board it has provided the owner with an annexation petition but has not yet received an executed petition or a formal plat of annexation.
Trustees asked whether the two parcels would need to be consolidated. Staff said consolidation could be required as a condition of annexation but that the owner can seek a variance for an adjacent parcel under common ownership without consolidation; staff offered to confer with the owner's attorney about adding consolidation language to the annexation agreement if the board prefers that approach.
With no applicant or members of the public present to speak on the annexation, Trustee Kim moved and Trustee Janet seconded to close the public hearing; the board voted in favor. Staff said it will follow up with the applicant’s attorney and bring completed materials back to the board before any ordinance or variance is acted on.
Next steps: staff will request the finalized plat of annexation and petition from the owner’s attorney and return to the board for ordinance action and any required variations.
