Board approves new payment systems, accounts payable addendum and a temporary school bus operator position

The Monongalia County Board of Education approved two technology contracts and several consent and personnel items at its Nov. 18 meeting.
Superintendent recommended and the board approved a subscription/support agreement with Givebacks (merchant/payment support) and a related Track Your Funds master subscription/support agreement to replace current Clover devices and to provide tablet/card‑reader options. Presenters told the board that the two companies are separate entities that operate together; school financial secretaries were consulted in the evaluation and PTOs and booster organizations will be eligible for free licenses through the Givebacks platform.
"As of January 1 this year, the Clover devices that we use to accept credit and debit cards are no longer gonna be supported by Keb Group," a presenter said, motivating the district’s search for replacement systems. The board approved both agreements by voice vote.
A board member recused themself from one vendor item because of a business relationship; Vice President Haggerty presided during the recusal and the board approved an accounts payable addendum after the recusal and a motion to approve.
The board also passed the consent agenda (expenditures over $3,000; payroll/payables; Early Head Start/Head Start monthly reports) after a clarification that the Monongalia County Schools professional development center is located in the old annex next to Emtek.
On personnel, the board approved the regular personnel list, a personnel addendum, and the creation of one new 200‑day, full‑time school bus operator position in transportation described as a plus‑one expenditure to the county. Board members discussed that the hire is intended to be temporary and prorated for the year and that routes might be adjusted to remove the position next year.
The superintendent gave a brief excess levy update and noted an informal report that the December levy committee meeting may be postponed because of holiday scheduling. The board set its next meeting for Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. and adjourned.
