Council approves Newberg Road reconstruction spending and MDOT agreement, adds $9,235 for right-of-way work

The Livonia City Council approved two engineering items tied to the Newberg Road reconstruction project on Nov. 19. Council voted to authorize a $9,235 additional expenditure to OHM Advisors to cover right-of-way easement acquisition work and approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation that lists the city's estimated participation at $871,018.
An engineering representative said the project required additional right-of-way coordination with county agencies and that the $9,235 amount represents an overrun to finalize easement acquisitions. The MDOT agreement, described as necessary to meet MDOT timelines, will be returned to MDOT within the agency's 30-day submission window; the $871,018 estimate includes amounts expected to be reimbursed by Wayne County for traffic-signal work under the county's jurisdiction.
Both items were approved by roll-call vote with a 7-0 tally. Engineering staff said final project costs will be known when the project is bid in early December.
