Audit: Evans Marshall & Pease auditor Scalitz reported completion of the FY2025 financial and single audit and issued an unmodified (clean) opinion on both audits, stating he identified no findings, deficiencies or material weaknesses. The auditor commended the districts business office for its preparation and internal controls.
Assessment and instruction: Later in the meeting, the board discussed a written report on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Board members and district leaders noted that statewide and district-level math scores remain an area of concern compared with ELA and that the district is monitoring iReady diagnostic data and time-on-task for personalized math pathways. Dr. Schrode said the district is investing heavily in literacy professional development this year and will monitor diagnostics in December and again in spring to measure effects on student outcomes.
Chromebook and screen-time discussion: Several board members raised concern about the impact of Chromebooks and unsupervised screen time on younger students' retention and social skills. The district said it will continue to monitor intentional screen use, iReady engagement and teacher supports; leaders noted targeted instructional work for teachers is under way to address math gaps.
Why it matters: A clean audit signals sound fiscal stewardship, while district leaders identified instructional priorities and data-driven steps to address lagging math outcomes; both finance and instruction items bear on budgeting and strategic planning.
