During the meeting’s public comment periods, community members raised maintenance and compliance concerns.
Ricky Manning urged the commission to postpone the scheduled work session on the 5‑stand expansion at the 2 Rivers gun range, arguing the county lacks information on personnel and maintenance costs and alleging prior approvals were out of zoning and noise compliance. The board said the 5‑stand matter will be the topic of a rescheduled work session on Dec. 2.
Later, David Gregory submitted a petition requesting immediate maintenance and safety improvements to Merrifield Plantation Road, describing severe potholes, ruts and a resurfacing history involving potash/wood ash that he said creates hazards and property damage. Public works staff said significant work to remove ash and replace the roadway is planned for early next year.
Other commenters urged the county to prioritize opioid prevention and education as well as to protect historic cemeteries near proposed industrial sites; one resident asked the JDA to address cemetery protection during site planning.
