The Lodi Unified School District board voted Oct. 21 to approve a contract to begin development of a five-year strategic plan with consultant Doug Liman, Superintendent Neil Young told the board.
Young described the approach as a "funnel": facilitated conversations at every school site (students, parents, teachers, staff and partners) would generate priorities that are distilled up to the board. Young emphasized the process would rely on in-person group work rather than a single survey and said communications staff would help publicize opportunities for input; the effort is expected to begin in February or March following contract award and scheduling.
Lisa Lennon Wilkins and other commenters asked how stakeholder participants will be selected and urged multiple modalities of feedback. Board members repeatedly stressed transparency and broad stakeholder involvement during the public meeting.
A motion to authorize the contract and begin the strategic-plan process passed 5–0 with two members absent. The board indicated further study sessions and community engagement milestones would follow as the consultant is onboarded.
