Students, poets and wellness center honored as district highlights community supports

Two students from Canyon Springs (Atika Anjum and Celeste DeLucias Centola) read original poems that the superintendent said were selected for presentation at the Riverside County Office of Education 'Excellence through Equity' conference.
Superintendent Raul Rubalcaba announced the district received a Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association for its dual‑enrollment program, which allows students to earn high‑school credit while taking college coursework through partners including Moreno Valley College and Cal State San Bernardino.
District staff also led a ribbon cutting and overview of a new wellness center that offers basic‑needs support: a food closet, laundromat access for parents, showers ('the oasis'), counseling resources and plans to add an on‑site clinic with Riverside University Health System. The wellness center was described as part of a broader effort to remove barriers to learning and connect students to services.
Board members praised the students and staff for community engagement and asked staff to continue highlighting successful programs across the district.
