Teachers' association warns of benefit cost increase, urges board to prioritize negotiations

Farias pointed to district financial statements to argue the district has capacity to invest in educators: he said projected reserves for 2025–26 were previously estimated at $23,000,000 but that current reserves for 2025–26 are "$120,000,000." He asked the board to demonstrate that district values are matched by budget priorities.
Farias also said MVA remains willing to continue bargaining in good faith and asked trustees to prioritize preserving educator compensation and benefits. Board members thanked him for the update and acknowledged the urgency of negotiations; no formal action was taken during the meeting.
