Valley View board routine approvals: budgets, benefits, curriculum and consent items

The Valley View School District board handled multiple routine but consequential items during its Nov. 17 meeting, approving finance reports, personnel actions, health-insurance renewals, curriculum changes and other consent business.
The board accepted the treasurer’s action report for October, which included balance sheets, revenues/expenditures and interim obligations; Renich said debt service payments included in the report totaled $44,648,776.83. The board also approved the scheduled bills for November totaling $5,705,462.92.
A 10-item consent agenda — including minutes, agreements, student-activity contracts, a facility dog agreement and travel for high-school trips — passed by roll call after a brief clarification about how recurring trip lists will be handled under a revised process.
On benefits, the administration recommended renewing third-party administration with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for the district’s self-funded health and dental plans effective Jan. 1, 2026; BCBS proposed a 5.51% increase to medical and prescription rates but district staff said changing plan options limited projected exposure and saved an estimated $5,500,000 versus an earlier projection. The board approved the renewal by roll call.
Curriculum and student programs approved included a new English 10 AP Seminar course and high-school summer programming options previously presented at the Oct. 20 meeting. The board also approved student discipline due-process recommendations and consolidated personnel actions (the personnel vote recorded at least one abstention).
Administrators noted additional informational items: plans to apply for a School Maintenance Grant and energy rebates to support Bolingbrook High School boiler/burner work; a job-description update for an account services representative to support the district print shop; and a district first-time recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association for excellence in financial reporting.
