The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 11 approved multiple routine and project-related items, including acceptance of a state grant for public-safety communications and several contract and funding actions.
Major approvals included:
- A $400,000 award for the county’s participation in the Ohio Department of Administrative Services/First Responder Communications program to reimburse construction of a communications tower at the French Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Sheffield Village; staff said equipment installation and fiber work are complete and in-building radio testing is scheduled to begin Dec. 2, with a project completion target of Dec. 31, 2025.
- An $18,000 amendment to the county’s contract with Resource Recycling Systems Inc. for ongoing solid-waste management-plan technical assistance and implementation support through 2025.
- Rejection of a bid for an epoxy floor replacement project (bid exceeded estimate by more than 20%) and authorization to rebid the project.
- Authorization for Jones Services personnel to use the agency Mastercard for 2025 in accordance with Ohio law.
- An amendment to the Nickel Plate diagonal road resurfacing project to increase a local funds share by $12,939.30, adjusting the total project to $415,359.30 with revised OPWC and county funding breakdowns; Carville Companies Inc. is the contractor.
- Acceptance of public improvements for Sandstone Parkway (approx. 2.5 miles) completed by Fetchco Excavating LLC and recording of the roadway plat in county records.
- Acceptance of VOCA and SCA grant funds totaling $108,253.18 for the prosecutor’s victim-witness program with a 20% cash match of $27,061.21 to be paid from the commissioner's general fund allocation.
Most actions were moved, seconded and approved by voice or roll-call vote during the meeting. Several items included staff presentations confirming project status and funding sources.
Ending: Commissioners also scheduled or reminded the public of upcoming budget work sessions and a Dec. 18 joint public hearing on subdivision regulations.
