Council approves $890,000 supplemental budget using public-safety fee revenue

Council on Tuesday approved, by unanimous vote, a supplemental budget adjustment that recognizes $890,000 in revenues from a recently adopted public-safety fee and reallocates funds to staff positions across departments.
Finance Director Michael Osborne said $775,000 of the adjustment will cover two police officers, a behavioral-health specialist, a library assistant and a court clerk; the remaining $115,000 covers public-works administrative staffing and related allocations.
"These funds will help fund part of the FTE count that we highlighted before the budget committee," Osborne said, describing the positions to be added or funded from the fee revenue. No public comments were offered during the hearing and council moved and unanimously approved the resolution authorizing the supplemental budget for the 2025-26 biennium.
Next steps: budget office will update the adopted budget and monitor program hiring and allocations during the next reporting cycle.
