Kershaw County sheriff's office wins international CALEA accreditation

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office announced it has earned international accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), a voluntary process the sheriff described as the department’s highest accreditation level.
Sheriff representatives credited accreditation manager Misty Burrows for leading roughly a year of work to document policies and prepare for on‑site review. “This is the highest level we can go in law enforcement accreditation,” the sheriff said, describing the process as a way to strengthen public trust, accountability and professional standards.
Council members responded with unanimous praise. Councilman Jimmy Jones called the accomplishment “a big, big deal” and other members highlighted possible benefits including reduced liability, better legal defenses and improved competitiveness for grants.
The council did not take formal action on the accreditation beyond recognizing the achievement; members invited the sheriff’s office to gather for a photograph and thanked staff for their work.
