Board approves $75,000 extension to support youth programs at Majestic Park

The Hot Springs Board of Directors voted to extend a contract with the Advertising & Promotion (A&P) Commission to support youth programming at Majestic Park. The resolution renews existing terms for one calendar year and provides $75,000 to help offset operating costs.
Majestic Park manager Derek Phillips told the board the program has grown from about 500 participants four years ago to more than 800 currently. Phillips said the Majestic Park program uses a 501(c)(3) scholarship fund to help lower-income participants: "Last year was our biggest number. It was right at 130 of our kids were scholarship." He described the requested city funds as help offsetting operational expenses — umpires, balls, equipment and staffing — rather than direct contributions to the Friends group or another nonprofit.
Directors asked staff where the $75,000 would be administered. Staff and the Majestic manager clarified the money goes to an operating fund for the Majestic program (not directly into the Friends of Majestic Park 501(c)(3) or the general Visit Hot Springs operating account) and agreed to provide a simple P&L for future budget consideration. Several directors supported exploring whether the Advertising & Promotion Commission could assume full funding at its next budget meeting.
Action: Resolution R-25-211 was read by title and adopted by roll call vote.
