North Bend reports: police stats, park work, salt supply and holiday plans

The Village of North Bend heard routine service and community updates at its Nov. 17 meeting, including police statistics, public‑works tasks and community programming.
Police officer Kenneth McElroy delivered the October 2025 activity report, saying the village logged 43 calls for service, 40 self‑initiated details, one detective assignment, two criminal reports, two noncriminal reports, three auto accidents and three citations for the month. McElroy also described an attic fire on Broward Road and a related broken hydrant that briefly affected water pressure in part of the village; he reported there were no injuries and service was restored quickly.
Maintenance supervisor Skip (identified as Nate in the discussion) reported heavy leaf pickup (about six truckloads) and progress on holiday preparations including installation of lights and placement of the large tree and park upgrades such as concrete pads for trash cans and planned replanting of rose bushes near the Veterans memorial.
Council discussed salt inventory and winter preparedness. A council member said the village requested the usual 100 tons of road salt but noted local salt dome inventories and distribution points may have changed; staff said they would follow up with the supplier.
The deputy clerk reported that Election Day went smoothly and introduced the newly elected council member, stating: “Our new council member is Patrick Cafferty. He's here.” The clerk also said residential rental permits were issued and valid through Aug. 2028; the village submitted a Fifth Third Foundation grant application with a playscape listed as the top priority; and Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. The clerk said the village has a new recycling bin and noted plans to approve a website developer (iPanda) pending final details.
Council also raised minor code and enforcement items including a motor home parked on Sims Avenue for about two months and a graffiti removal follow‑up letter to a county contact. Staff were asked to follow up on both matters.
Next steps: Public safety, maintenance and clerk's offices will follow up on hydrant/water issues, salt deliveries, grant notifications expected in April and code enforcement actions as needed.
