The Logansport Parks and Recreation Board authorized staff to apply for an MLS GO grant on Nov. 19, which the National Recreation and Park Association and Major League Soccer run to help communities start soccer programming.
Jacqueline, who presented the grant, said the MLS GO program offers curriculum, marketing and jersey support designed to help communities that currently lack organized soccer opportunities. She explained the overall pool is about $100,000 spread across multiple communities and that applications do not require a local match. “The whole goal for this grant is to get soccer up and started in your community,” she said.
Staff advised that awardees must complete programming within a roughly six-month window and that communities cannot reapply until the next cycle. The board moved and approved authorization for staff to pursue the grant application.
The authorization directs staff to prepare an application and, if awarded, to follow the grant’s implementation timeline and reporting requirements to NRPA/MLS.
