The Logansport Parks and Recreation Board voted to adopt Resolution 2025-13 on Nov. 19, creating a part-time sports manager position intended to expand city sports programming and adult fitness and wellness offerings.
Jacqueline, a parks staff member who presented the item, said the position will let the department bring sports programming under its management and grow offerings identified as priorities in the department’s master plan. “So we are wanting to, bring in a part time sports manager,” she said, adding that the role is intended to help run current programs and build new ones.
Board members reviewed the draft job description and budget. Staff noted the part-time pay ceiling in current plans is $15 an hour and referenced an estimated budget line of roughly $65,690 — about $1,000 above available funds. Jacqueline said raises for part-time staff were modeled at 3 percent for the coming year to align with other department adjustments.
Several members raised practical questions about how annual-hours averaging would affect benefits eligibility and whether short-term 40-hour stretches during peak programming could inadvertently trigger insurance requirements. One member asked staff to consult Human Resources and to clarify averaging and scheduling in the job description; Jacqueline agreed to include that language.
The chair called for a motion to adopt Resolution 2025-13; the motion and second were recorded and the chair announced the resolution had passed.
The decision establishes the position and authorizes staff to finalize the job posting and budget adjustments; the board asked that the job description be revised to clarify hours, averaging and HR coordination before recruitment.
