Staff said construction is already underway for parts of the new water infrastructure and that tree removal along the corridor is necessary to prepare for trenching in spring 2026. The recommended design would retain the pavement at its approximate current width, install curb and gutter, provide an 8‑foot wide shared‑use path on the north side, and plant larger‑caliper trees in a park strip where feasible.
"I am recommending the 8 foot shared use path design and asking for a head nod from city council to proceed," the presenter said.
Council members cited winter maintenance, pedestrian safety and connectivity to Merlin Olsen Park and Logan Canyon as reasons for supporting the plan. Several council members gave a verbal or physical head‑nod during the meeting, and the chair confirmed staff will move forward with the selected design option and post project information to the city website.
What comes next Staff will proceed with design work for the shared‑use path and coordinate specifics with affected residents and neighborhood groups; final construction scheduling will follow completion of water‑line trenching and be posted on the project page.
