PTSA warns of steep membership decline and cuts to student programs

At the Nov. 18 meeting, a board member read a letter from PTSA president Jim Patel describing a marked drop in PTSA membership and volunteerism. The letter said 58 families signed up before the school year began and only 11 additional memberships had been added since, leaving the total membership at about 113 — down from roughly 165 at the same point last year.
PTSA leaders said Snack Shack sales and membership dues fund many activities and grants; the letter warned that without increased membership and volunteers they will need to cut programs such as the interview clinic and the freshman boot camp, both previously supported by PTSA funds. Board members discussed whether declining membership reflects lower enrollment and noted that parent volunteer declines are a national trend.
PTSA leaders encouraged families to join and pointed out that membership is open to non‑parents who want to support school programs.
