Board approves $11 million in transfers to Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority for site repairs

Baltimore’s Department of Public Works asked the Board of Estimates on Nov. 19 to approve two memoranda of understanding transferring capital funds to the Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority for ongoing repairs.
Bridal Abou Hakim, bureau head for DPW’s Solid Waste division, said Amendment 5 (SB2513303) provides $3,500,000 for repairs at the Quarantine Road landfill and another MOU (SB2513299) provides $7,500,000 for repairs at the Alkane Street site, which supports bulk-collection, white goods pickup and mechanical street sweeping operations. Abou Hakim noted the authority is carrying out capital projects already underway and that the transfers will facilitate continued work.
Board members asked for an overview of benefits from authority membership and for documentation on services provided; Abou Hakim agreed to provide written information and an optional briefing to board members. Both MOU votes were moved and seconded and each passed with recorded 'ayes.'
