Baxter elected Palm Beach County mayor; Woodward chosen vice mayor as board reshuffles leadership

At its Nov. 18 meeting the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners elected Commissioner Sarah Baxter as mayor and Marcy Woodward as vice mayor; both leadership votes were unanimous (7-0) and the board also selected Solid Waste Authority officers.
Commissioner Sarah Baxter was elected mayor of Palm Beach County at the board’s Nov. 18 meeting after nominations opened by Shanna Ramsey Chessman, the chief deputy clerk. Baxter was nominated by Commissioner Sachs and confirmed without further nominations.
The board then elected Commissioner Marcy Woodward as vice mayor by voice vote. Clerk records show the leadership elections carried unanimously, 7-0. After the board adjourned as the County Commission it reconvened as the Solid Waste Authority and elected Woodward as chair, Joe Flores as vice chair and Bobby Powell as secretary, all by unanimous votes.
The clerk announced the results on the record and thanked the outgoing leadership for their service. Commissioners used the leadership-change portion of the agenda to acknowledge staff and public-safety projects and to hand off responsibilities to the incoming mayor and vice mayor.
The meeting proceeded to regular business after the leadership votes; a brief public comment and several consent items followed. The board also paused for a brief gift and recognition presentation to the outgoing mayor before continuing the agenda.
The board scheduled regular business and follow-up briefings to align staff and commissioners under the newly seated leadership.
