Committee updates: Technology plan review, policy consolidation and traffic-safety fixes

At the Nov. 18 meeting the Rye City School District board heard three committee reports covering technology, policy review and traffic and pedestrian safety.
Technology: Ms. Clapfer said the technology committee met Nov. 6, reviewed the expiring five-year technology plan and agreed to retain the core goals — infrastructure, active learning environments and a digital equity survey — while tweaking language and prioritizing sustainability and professional development. The group will continue work on the plan and review previously developed AI guidelines.
Policy: A policy-committee member reported a meeting earlier that day. No policies were brought forward for action, but the committee is reviewing policies originating from the 2010–2012 period to consolidate overlapping items and retire policies that no longer serve district needs. Several updates will be discussed at future meetings.
Traffic and pedestrian safety: The committee reported two items relevant to the district. A community member raised safety concerns about the asphalt sidewalk in front of Osborne School on Boston Post Road; the committee said facilities director Rob Gamigliano indicated he can apply short-term patching quickly and will explore longer-term repairs before winter. The committee also discussed congestion at the Midland pickup circle, where vehicles queuing to pick up students block northbound traffic; Kelsey Johnson has spoken with "mister Boylan," and Boylan sent parents an email asking them not to queue in the circle and to allow through traffic to pass.
Each committee report concluded with next steps: continued work on the technology plan and AI guidelines review, policy consolidation work before returning proposed changes to the board, and near-term sidewalk patching by facilities with longer-term options to follow.
The board scheduled a facilities update for the next meeting on Dec. 2.
