Planning commission to draft questions and invite development and affordable-housing experts for early-2024 sessions

Chair Sam and staff said the effort is a 2026 parking-lot item but that commissioners want to begin drafting the focused questions that will guide invitations. ‘‘We need to ask different questions of market developers and affordable-housing providers,’’ one commissioner said, urging separate, tailored question sets.
Commissioner John and others asked for context on targets and goals, including the housing element and county/regional growth targets, so guests understand the commission’s priorities. Staff said that much of the baseline data is in the newly adopted comprehensive plan (volume 1 goals/policies and volume 2 data) and offered to work with the chair to refine the questions and reach out to suggested invitees.
Commissioners asked staff to aim for initial guest sessions in January or February 2024, pending holiday schedules and staff capacity; they also discussed the possibility of small working groups or homework assignments to reduce staff burden.
