Magistrate backs staff recommendations to reduce several long-running liens, including $5,000 offer for massive accrued fine

City staff told the magistrate the city manager had reviewed the offers and recommended the reductions. For smaller lien cases within the magistrate’s authority, the hearing officer approved reduced amounts and set payment timelines where applicable (examples: a reduction to $9,250 in one case and smaller reductions in two related cases totaling $4,529.77 and $2,692.77). The magistrate said he had sufficient information to approve the lower amounts for cases within his authority and to recommend the larger $5,000 reduction to city council.
The magistrate approved the staff requests and closed those agenda items; the reductions will be reflected in the city’s council docket where final approval is required for the highest-value lien.
